Janet DeBoos: A Survey

Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre

1st Floor, North Building, 180 London Circuit, Canberra ACT

28 May – 11 July 2015

The exhibition Janet DeBoos: A Survey, curated by Peter Haynes, examines the career of internationally renowned ceramicist Janet DeBoos from the late 1970s to 2015.

Opening event: 6pm Thursday 28 May 2015

The artist has a major international reputation yet this will be the first significant and sustained investigation of her work. The exhibition presents and focuses on DeBoos' ongoing investigations into the meaning of making; the importance of skill; the beauty of function; and the way in which ideas develop and hybridise through partnerships with, for example, the Chinese porcelain industry and Indigenous art centres. Each of the preceding is discussed in the light of the artist's continuing philosophical and conceptual investigations into the nature of function; the role of entropy in serial production and cross-cultural interactions.
